Top Tips for Goody Bags

Goody bags are a fairly recent phenomenon for kids’ parties. Today, they have become an essential part of the celebration and another way to extend the party theme, since the guests take the goodies home with them. They are fun, but can also add to your budget and time, as it is one more thing to prepare. Keep in mind these top tips when planning your party favors:

  1. To save time and money on goody bags, try these alternatives:
    • Let a craft that your guests make at your party be the goody.
    • Wrap up slices of cake or other extra treats for the kids to take home.
    • Send the guests home with a party hat, balloon, and horn.
    • Let the prizes the kids win during the party serve as the party favors.
  2. If you are going to hand out favors, create thematic goody bags to match your theme. As an example, for a circus party, boxes of Animal Crackers, a red clown nose, a bottle of bubbles, and a balloon animal extends the fun.
  3. You do not need to provide parents who stay with their children at your party with goody bags. These are strictly for the children.
  4. If multiple ages of children will be attending your party, make sure to coordinate the goody bags to match the different ages. As an example, one-year-old children will appreciate a healthy snack in a cup that can be reused and three-year-old kids will love crayons and activity books.
  5. Think twice before handing out fish or any other small animal as a favor. Many party guests’ families will not be comfortable with this new pet and this may lead to an awkward situation.
  6. Make sure to have your goody bags prepared before the party and placed in an area that kids pass by as they depart the party for easy distribution.
